Catalog Trailering Guide Build Your Avalanche Let's start with one of these popular models. 2011 Avalanche LS From $36,110(1) Build & Price 2011 Avalanche LT From $39,215(1) Build & Price 2011 Avalanche LTZ From $46,005(1) Build & Price Versatile with a sense for adventure Avalanche is a perfect blend of flexibility and functionality for people who want to be ready for anything at a moment's notice. That's because Avalanche can keep up with your pace of life by changing from an SUV to a pickup truck in less than a minute. Step inside and you'll enjoy the comfort, look and feel of an upscale SUV. And whenever you need it, you'll also have the capability and power of a full-size pickup. On This Page Keep reading to learn more about the Avalanche: GM segment-exclusive Midgate® Towing and hauling Fuel efficiency Safety Capability and comfort Read The Story Learn More GM segment-exclusive Midgate The ingenious Midgate gives Avalanche the unique ability to serve as a five- or six-passenger SUV(5) or a full-size pickup. To begin its conversion to a pickup, simply lower the 60/40 split-folding bench seat. From there, the Midgate can be lowered for a completely secured cargo area, or the rear window and three-piece cargo cover can be removed for more room to transport larger items. The rear window can even be stowed in the Midgate. Browse the photos to the right to see the conversion step-by-step. lightbox_thumbnail 60/40 split-folding bench seat. 1 of 4 lightbox_thumbnail GM segment-exclusive Midgate. 2 of 4 lightbox_thumbnail Largest trunk in the industry(6). 3 of 4 lightbox_thumbnail Rear window can be stowed in the Midgate. 4 of 4 60/40 split-folding bench seat. Once the Midgate is lowered, Avalanche is fully ready to accommodate cargo both large and small. It features a removable three-piece cargo cover and locking tailgate, which equip Avalanche with the largest trunk in the industry(6) when the rear window is in place. Spacious cargo area 8' 2" depth with the Midgate down 50 inches between the wheel housing 45.5 cubic feet of space(7) See the complete list of features and specs. Hauling power at your command Avalanche may look like fun, but it's built to work hard too. It offers up to 8,100 lbs.(8) of towing capacity to haul big items such as a boat. Avalanche doesn't sacrifice ride quality when it's loaded up either, thanks to its coil-spring suspension. There's also plenty of available accessories to help make your towing and packing easier. Proven Vortec power Avalanche packs the right combination of horsepower and torque to handle bigger payloads. The standard Vortec 5.3L V8 engine puts 320 horses to work along with 335 lb.-ft. of torque. That means Avalanche has the power under the hood to take what's inside or behind it where it needs to go. Start building yours today. Fuel-efficient, fuel-flexible Active Fuel Management technology This smart technology activates all eight engine cylinders when more power is needed and deactivates four cylinders with seamless precision when you need to conserve fuel. The results help Avalanche offer an EPA estimated 21 MPG highway and a driving range of up to 650 highway miles when running on gas. FlexFuel capable The flexibility continues at the pump with the standard FlexFuel-capable engine, which can run on either unleaded fuel or E85 - a combination of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline(9). Find the E85 station nearest you. Safety features The 2011 Avalanche continues to offer an all-encompassing approach to safety, including head-curtain side-impact air bags(10) and front seat-mounted side-impact air bags. These are in addition to the standard dual-stage frontal, driver and right-front passenger air bags with the Passenger Sensing System. The Tire Pressure Monitor, another standard feature on Avalanche, monitors inflation level in each road tire (excludes spare tire) and alerts the driver if any tire falls below a specified pressure level. OnStar OnStar®(11) with the Directions & Connections® Plan - standard for the first six months - includes Automatic Crash Response which uses built-in vehicle sensors that can send an alert. Even if you don't respond, an OnStar Advisor can request help be sent to your exact GPS location. Learn more about OnStar. Available Rearview Camera System An available rearview camera system helps you see certain stationary obstacles on the navigation screen (shown) or in the rearview mirror while moving in Reverse at low speeds. Standard on LTZ. StabiliTrak The StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System helps you stay the course by detecting the difference between the steering wheel angle and the direction the vehicle is actually turning. It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help you keep your vehicle on track. Capability outside, comfort inside Finely appointed interior Avalanche is ready for work or for play with plenty of comfort and style inside. The roomy interior can fit up to five or six passengers(5) comfortably. Plus, several available leather appointments or Premium Cloth seat fabrics are available to choose from. See more of the Avalanche interior in the photo gallery. Lowering the midgate and rear seat extends the 5.3-ft cargo box to 8.1-ft. The rear window also removes and stores onboard. Avalanche comes as a half-ton 1500 model with a 5.3-liter V8 and as a heavy-duty 2500 with an 8.1-liter V8. The 1500 offers rear-wheel drive. Optional on 1500s and standard on 2500s is GM's Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. All models have automatic transmission, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, and standard seating for six. GM's Stabilitrack antiskid system is standard on 1500 models, unavailable for 2500. GM's OnStar assistance is standard. Front side airbags are available. Options include navigation system with touch screen, satellite radio, and rear DVD entertainment. Also optional are a sunroof, heated front bucket seats, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable pedals. Standard is a rigid 3-piece cargo-bed cover. A soft vinyl cover is a $600 credit option. A Z66 equipment package for 2WD 1500s features sport suspension and limited-slip differential. Cadillac's Escalade EXT is a luxury Avalanche with different styling, more power, and standard all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. A redesigned Avalanche arrives later in calendar 2006 as an '07 model. COMPETITION Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 17 classes based on size, price, and market position.
