Known as the Sting Ray, the C2 was an amazing piece of machinery for its output of 560 HP (for the C2 427 version) which was considered phenomenal during that time. Remember, in those days, Ferrari models couldn’t even come close to the 500 HP mark. Now, bringing that speedster back into our lives is Atlantic Racing, who were made famous by their Le Mans Classic cars.Atlantic Racing took the L88 engine in the C2 427 and jumpstarted its horsepower from 560 to 650. Next to modifying the 7-liter V8 engine, the tuner also decreased the car’s weight down to 1240 kilos and added a Rochester T10 transmission with strengthened clutch.The Corvette C2 427 by Atlantic Racing was developed specially for the track and has already won the 2007 European Championship GT1 for history models. The new engine delivers an impressive 556 HP and, for a sports car with a curb weight of about 2,500 pounds, it delivers an incredible power-to-weight ratio of only 4.5:1.Chevrolet could have settled for just about any car as host to their new engine, but the company chose to make a replica of the iconic Corvette Grand Sports because of its exclusivity - only five were ever built - and its racing history. And this model is the Z06X Track Car Concept set to be displayed at the 2010 SEMA Show.The Z06X concept is based on the Corvette Z06 version with the addition of a 1LZ equipment package, Z07 Performance Package, and CFZ Carbon Fiber Package. The Z07 Performance Package offers stopping power in the form of carbon ceramic brakes and a modified suspension thanks to the use of Magnetic Ride Control.Furthering the trip to racing heaven is the many competition-oriented modifications done to the Corvette. Chevrolet has thrown in an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, a polycarbonate rear window, roll cage, racing seat and safety harness, racing wheels, suspension enhancements – including coil-over struts with fully adjustable camber plates – and a racing-spec cooling system, among other things. Usually there would be a handful of modified ZR1’s along with the latest offerings from the brand, but this year sees a very cool live exhibit. Blue collar heroes, as we like to refer to them, will be hands on, assembling from scratch, a supercharged LS9 6.2 liter V8 for all to see.Show-goers will be able to marvel at the workmanship that goes into an LS9 powerplant and for the first time, ask any questions they might have. The reason behind this is to market what Chevrolet calls the Corvette Engine Build Experience. In essence, this offers Corvette buyers a unique opportunity to build their very own engine that will end up in the car they have ordered. The material is five times lighter than normal steel and yet twice as strong. Until now, mass produced vehicles could not feature exposed carbon panels, due to the way they degrade thanks to the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays. With no other choice, automakers just chose to paint them, leaving the naked weave of the carbon material as a very sought after aesthetic – especially on cool fast cars, needing that race-bred look.Mark Voss, senior design engineer of the Corvette ZR1, explains: “Everyone said it couldn’t be done, and we were crazy for trying.”Undaunted, Voss and his team toiled away for three years to develop a high gloss, UV-resistant clear coat that now allows exposed carbon fiber panels on the body of the ZR1. The high-tech coating also protects the components from stone chips and scratches. No cheap carbon look rubbish for the ZR1 then. Instead the roof panel, roof bow, rocker moldings, front fascia splitter, and the underside of the hood will all get new panels that will feature the exposed-weave carbon fiber. That’s because the Viper is just the body. What’s inside is actually a Chevrolet Corvette. Appropriately enough, it’s called the “ViperVette”. Catchy.Make no mistake though, the Corvette engine inside this Viper is no slouch. It’s got a 5.7-liter engine that’s mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, giving it enough performance so as not to shame the car out on the road. As for the car’s interior, the owner mixed in red and black leather seat covers on the upholstery as well as a nice load of features including tilt wheels, power trunk, power seats, and power mirrors.In the event that you’re fancying this car – can’t think of any reason why not – then you’re in luck. The car is actually for sale at a pretty reasonable price of just $12,250. There’s a catch, though. But they did, and they certainly paid a steep – and wet – price for it.A 39-year old man and his 36-year old wife were having drinks at a bar in Pacific Beach near San Diego when they invited a man that they were talking to drive their rental Hertz Corvette. Why did they do it? Apparently, the man told them that he had never driven a Corvette before.Defying any form of common sense, the couple let the man sit behind the wheel of the Corvette where the latter, probably in his excitement in driving a Corvette, proceeded to do a series of donuts along the beach. After one too many stunts, the Corvette somehow ended up on the surf before getting swept away by the waves right into the waters.The couple was taken to a detox center before eventually being released, but the stunt driver somehow managed to escape the authorities. As for the Corvette, tow trucks were called in to bring the swimming sports car back to dry land.Shout out to Bminix for the video!
